Introduction, by Máximo Rodríguez
The
wide fan that supposes the popular music in all its expressions has been the
main motivation when forming this group.
Finding
appropriate people for such a project is not an easy task. It is also important
to count with people that like of such a variety of styles and that who would
also play them with ease and happiness. I believe to have found that type of
musicians. “Jazz”, as concept involving the instantaneous creative act, is
another of the fundamental condiments that I have included in the varied
repertoire of the group. Therefore the improvised “conversation” never stops
to take place in the whole repertoire, either in a zamba or in a candombe or in
a tune with Latin influences. At the very beginning the group approached most of
its repertoire with diverse composers' works. In this new stage most of the
tunes are originals and they approach a thematic sufficiently wide inside the
popular music, which is not a very usual thing to happen in our environment.
The members of the quintet are musicians with experience in different environments of our music. They have walked on varied roads as contemporary tango, folk music, Latin music, fusion, being musicians having their roots in jazz, which give them the elements for a very solid foundation, and the attitude of always digging into new proposals.
The
repertoire of the Quintet embraces different trends in popular music. The
spectrum covers Argentinean folk music (zamba), Tango( milonga), Latin music
(Cumbia, Latin, Bossa etc. ) and Jazz in their different forms, giving supreme
importance to the improvisation, as spontaneous creative act.
